My grandfather, who was Jewish, just passed away earlier this morning. It is a sad day, to be sure, but at the same time, it was a long time coming, and so I hope that he will be at peace now. He was in poor health for years, although not truly suffering during most of that time, and also very old. I would like to honor his memory and I am looking into Jewish memorials in NJ and how much it would cost to erect one for his grave. I had not really thought about this much before he passed away, but I guess the idea came to me a few hours ago, and now I want to look into it some more.
My grandfather was a very Jewish person, and he actually barely escaped occupation by the Germans in the Second World War. But I never was very Jewish myself. I guess that I identify as Jewish, to an extent, from a cultural perspective; but I could not say the same for a religious perspective. I am really excited about doing something nice for my grandfather though, because he meant a lot to me growing up. He arguably was a better father figure for me during my life, than my own father, who was often gone a lot of the time for work.
I need to talk to some of my other family members about this issue before I go forward with it. But that won’t stop me from looking into it a bit to see how much it is going to cost roughly, and maybe get some sort of idea about what sort of options are out there. That would be a good idea I think, so that I have a better idea of what is out there.
